Using Acrylic paint to really create the magic of sugar skulls. Some students chose to bring in gems to add to the eyes as well.
In previous years for a fun activity to celebrate the Day of The Dead, students have had a quick fire design challenge to decorate skulls. This year students have begun by creating a salt dough from flour, salt and water to create a 3d version of this celebrated tradition. Recipe: 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup water. Be sure that they do not add water all at once as it could make the dough to runny to work with. If you want them to make larger pieces you can easily double the recipe. I had students mix the ingredients in large freezer bags to reduce clean up time. Allow at least 3 days to let their skulls dry before painting. Drying skulls before they are painted |
